Follow us on LinkedIn ? Manganese, one of the most versatile chemical elements, serves as an important raw material for innumerable applications, particularly the production of steel. Electrolytic manganese, a highly refined form of the metal, is also used, though in smaller quantities for manufacturing battery parts. The metal is also utilized in chemical applications such as formulation of inorganic salts and carboxylates, medicines, and catalysts, and rust proofing in metals. The other key application areas of manganese include plant fertilizers, animal feed, pigments in ceramics, brick colorants, coatings that expedite drying of paints and enamels, fuel oil additive, matches and glass materials. Steel continues to be the largest and most influential end-use market for manganese and market prospects are heavily tied to the industry. More than 90% of manganese consumption is used in steel industry, and due to this strong link, manganese consumption serves an index of industrial growth and in turn an indicator of economic growth. Most of the world?s manganese resources are found in select countries including Australia, South Africa, Gabon, and Brazil. India and Gabon supply large quantities to the West, and have of late reduced exports of low- and medium-grade ore. China has emerged as a major reserve for manganese, although most of the deposits are of low-grade ore, the quality of which needs to be improved.

The steady slump in steel production from mid 2011 precipitated the shortfall in Chinese Manganese. imports, in addition to triggering the fall of international manganese prices, thereby making manganese the worst performing metal commodity of the year. Prices were strained further by the rising Chinese inventory, as well as the oversupply from Indonesia and South Africa. The downhill movement of prices squeezed profit margins of manganese producers, with manganese ore prices falling to US$ 4.75 dmtu, inching closer to the breakeven level – US$ 3.50 per dmtu ? at which high cost mining operations would be forced to shut down. With the threat of closure looming high, domestic producers in China cut down production in a bid to arrest the price fall, while several suppliers withheld stocks from the market due to the weak prices.

Recent innovations in the green energy sector are boosting demand for electrolytic manganese metal (EMM) and electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD), thereby representing a potential boon for the North American manganese industry. EMM, a highly purified form of manganese is being increasingly used for fabricating cathodes, while EMD, a more refined variety of EMM is being used to produce anodes of the lithium-ion batteries that power electric vehicles. Given the rapidly expanding consumer base for electric cars, the United States is the leading global market for EMD and EMM. On a global scale, EMD and EMM, two highly-refined forms of manganese metal, are increasingly finding application in the production of lithium-ion batteries that power electric vehicles and other green energy applications. The demand for EMD from primary battery makers is projected to remain flat, while that from Li-on secondary battery manufacturers is anticipated to soar in the near term.

Asia-Pacific, led almost completely by China, represents the single-largest opportunity for the manganese market, accounting for a substantial share of the worldwide consumption, as stated by the new market research report on Manganese. With heavyweight China strongly influencing the global demand-supply balance, the Asia Pacific region is also slated to expand at the strongest pace of 8.8% through 2017. Within the product segments, SiMn Alloy dominates in terms of market size, as well as the overall growth rate over the analysis period.

Major market participants profiled in the report include Assmang Ltd, Carus Corporation, Compania Minera Autlan, S.A.B. De CV, Eramet SA, Manganese Metal Company, Nippon Denko Company Ltd and Vale.

The research report titled ?Manganese: A Global Strategic Business Report? announced by Global Industry Analysts Inc., sheds light on the major market trends that are shaping manganese markets in the post-recession scenario. Besides highlighting the key market growth deterrents and drivers, the report provides a snapshot of the competitive landscape and recent industry activity. Analytics are presented in terms of annual consumption volume for the years 2009 through 2017 with breakdown of geographic markets, including US, Canada, Japan, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Rest of World (comprising Middle East and African countries). The report also proffers annual estimates and projections for the four major product segments, namely Ferro Manganese SilicoManganese, Refined Ferro Manganese, and Non-Ferrous Manganese Alloys. Key end-use segments analyzed include Steel Production, Battery Production and Other Applications. The study also provides historic data for an insight into market evolution over the period 2003 through 2008.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) April 13, 2012

Follow us on LinkedIn ? The recent economic recession has brought about a significant demographic change in the demand for luxury watches, as the momentum in the market shifted away from developed markets such as US and Europe to developing regions such as Asia-Pacific and Latin America even in countries such as Saudi Arabia, and UAE. Booming economies, increase in income levels and discretionary spending in most of the developing markets, particularly China, India, and Brazil are driving demand for expensive watches and clocks in these regions. Limited edition watches developed by leading brands such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, Richard Mille and Cartier have witnessed tremendous demand particularly in emerging markets. Piaget, registered single-digit growth in 2009 despite economic recession, mainly due to demand for its range of luxury watches in emerging economies. After posting significant decline in dollar sales in 2009, Luxury watches market in Europe and the US is now steadily regaining lost ground, owing to resurgence in global economy. With improvement in discretionary incomes, consumers are gradually shifting from away considering watches as once-in-a-lifetime purchase to buying wide array of watches to complement outfits, hobbies and their social status. The products gaining major importance are the ones with fashion statement complemented with simple designs. Various materials in different colors and finishing are used for housing and casing and for wristbands such as leather, plastic, metal and wood. In the EU, where nickel is banned for use in watches, stainless steel requiring no electroplating shows a growing demand. Digital sports watches are also gaining market share on the grounds of sport-related promotional campaigns and growing health awareness.

Rising income levels and increasing purchasing power of many young affluent professionals provides an opportunity for watch manufacturers to tap substantial demand for ultra luxury watches. As an effort towards this end, global luxury-watch brands are competing with each other to introduce innovative watches with new technology, design and materials. Key luxury watch companies across the globe are focusing on meeting all the necessary prerequisites for competing with the Swiss manufacturers such as Rolex, Swatch Group and Richemont, which lord over luxury watch segment. Presenting watches that feature advanced capabilities such as use of robots, hi-tech coating, and advanced materials such as ceramics and titanium, Swiss manufacturers have set a standard in luxury watches market. Switzerland continues to reign as a worldwide leader in watch production, banking on strength of its luxury watch business. Swiss watches are preferred for their high quality and low cost. Asia, particularly, Japan and Singapore are major markets for Swiss watches.

Price of watches depend upon the material used for making watches. For instance, the watches made by using electronic gadgets will cost lesser than the watch made by using non-electronic materials such as diamonds, gold or silver. The cost of electronic watches ranges from US$ 50 to US$ 100, while the cost of diamond watches is in thousands of dollars. Watches in luxury (US$ 1000-US$ 5000 pricing category garnering a substantial share of the market, lost their sheen during 2009, especially in mature markets such as US and Europe as consumers found it difficult to justify big spending. In direct contrast to the scenario, mass (Under $ 50) priced watches are fared relatively better than the expensive versions during recession. Steady sales of mass-priced watches, including plastic watches stand testimony to the recession induced change in consumer perspective over purchase of watches and clocks. However, given that the consumers search for a sturdy value proposition is a common thread that runs through all market segments, expensive watches featuring bold and innovative themes continued to find buyers despite difficult economic conditions, while classic watches found demand as collector?s items.

Europe represents the largest worldwide market, spurred by consumer confidence, emerging fashion trends and new product developments, as stated by the new market research report on Watches and Clocks. The European market is led by analog timepieces and demand for clocks, watches and components are mainly driven by fashion trends rather than technological developments. Innovations therefore, are mainly in the form of design changes. Asia-Pacific, led by China, Hong Kong, India, Taiwan and others is forecast to record the fastest gains at a strong CAGR of 3.6% though 2017.

Major players profiled in the report include Bulgari, Bulova, Cartier SA, Casio Computer Co., Ltd., Chopard, Citizen Holdings Co., Ltd., Compagnie Financi?re Richemont International, Fossil, Inc., Gucci Group, Hermes International, Hindustan Machine Tools, Junghans Uhren GmbH, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA, Tag Heuer International SA, Movado Group, Inc., Patek Philippe SA, Rhythm Watch Co., Ltd., Rolex SA, Seiko Holdings Corporation, Seiko Corporation of America, The Swatch Group Ltd., Timex Group USA Inc, Timex Group India Ltd., Titan Industries Ltd., among others.

The research report titled ?Watches and Clocks: A Global Strategic Business Report? announced by Global Industry Analysts Inc., provides a comprehensive review of the watches and clocks markets, current market trends, key growth drivers, recent product introductions, recent industry activity, and profiles of key/niche global and regional market participants. Market estimates and projections in this study are presented for the following geographic markets ? US, Canada, Japan, Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Latin America. Key product segments for watches analyzed include, Mass (Under $ 50); Middle ($ 50 – $ 299); Upper ($ 300 – $ 999) and Luxury ($ 1000 – $ 5000). The study also provides historic data for an insight into market evolution over the period 2003 through 2008.

Burlington, MA (PRWEB) March 31, 2012

While ALON has comparable mechanical (hardness and strength) and dielectric properties to alumina, its transparency and superior chemical resistance makes it a preferred, and ?See Through? alternative for many applications. Current applications of ALON such as transparent armor, sensor and reconnaissance windows and domes exploit its unique combination of optical (UV to MWIR transparency), mechanical (high hardness, strength and durability) properties.

This new bonding technology, will extend the application of ALON to new applications, including Oil and Gas drilling where ceramic and metal components must be joined.

Scottsdale, AZ (PRWEB) March 13, 2012

Join us on March 17th at 1:00pm at the Arizona Fine Art EXPO, as Tom Martin of Luna Bronze & artist Hal Stewart will demonstrate clay mold making for all the patrons.

Tom Martin, owner of Luna Bronze Foundry in Heber City, Utah, and sculptor Hal Stewart, will be demonstrating a 5000 year old process know as ?Los Wax?. Stewart life size sculpture ?Pima Basket Carrier? stands over 8ft tall and will be divided into approximately 8 to 10 segments for producing the molds.

Each clay piece is painted with a synthetic rubber, covered with a plaster shell, which becomes a ?negative? of the original clay sculpture. This process involves pouring wax inside the rubber mold, creating a ?positive? mold. Not until the wax has cooled is the rubber form pulled away. The molds will then be sent to Luna Bronze Foundry for the completion. Once it arrives the fabrication begins, which is dipping the wax mold into a ceramic solution to harden then placed into a high temperature furnace. During this process the wax melts out leaving a hollow ceramic mold. Bronze is melted to a molten state and ready to be poured into the ceramic cast, left to harden and cool. Once the bronze has solidified and cooled completely, the ceramic shell can be chipped away, revealing an exact replica of the original clay statue.

This mold making method is educational and open to the public for a great learning experience to be enjoyed by the entire family.

Horses Help charity will transport their ponies to the biggest live horse painting event of the year in Arizona. The participating veterans from the charity American Healing Arts Foundation, will paint the second pony and The Children of Fallen Heroes will paint the miniature pony. Attending veterans are welcome to join in.
